Taylor Swift has dominated the music industry with her powerful voice, diverse discography, and captivating lyrics. She has also single-handedly redefined the industry by pushing the boundaries with a 10-minute song and her record-breaking Eras Tour! Beyond the melodies and lyrics, Swift’s albums have become iconic in their own right, shaping the narrative of her journey as an artist. In case you’re not a Swiftie, Taylor Swift has done something we have never seen before. Instead of referring to all of her albums as that, her albums, she has coined the term “Eras” to differentiate each album.
For some background, Taylor Swift created The Eras Tour as a way to perform the multiple albums she released in 2020 when concerts were obsolete, combined with the idea of her ‘reclaiming’ her older albums. If you’re not familiar, Taylor’s 2019 release, Lover, was the first album she completely owned. Instead of purchasing her first six albums for thousands, she decided to re-record them the way she wanted to while adding unreleased tracks from “The Vault”! So far, the world has gotten “(Taylor’s Version)” of all original albums except for two, her Reputation (album), and Name (Taylor Swift, Debut).
Knowing the backstory to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, it’s easy to see why she’s been topping the charts, award shows, and breaking world records! For us at Underground Printing, we love all of the unique and hand-made outfits fans are rocking at the concerts. In this blog, we will dive into Taylor Swift’s Eras, capturing the essence of each iconic album through custom t-shirt designs inspired by five standout songs from each era!

Taylor Swift is Swift’s self-titled, debut studio album. Released on October 24th, 2006 when Taylor was only 16 years old, this Country album first appeared at number 19 on the Billboard 200 list just a few weeks later on November, 11th. This album is full of the energy and obsessions of youth and was co-written with experienced songwriter Liz Rose. On this album, there are 11 songs including Swift’s first hit single, “Tim McGraw.”
At just 16, Taylor Swift was topping the charts with her Debut album! An ode to youth, many fans find ultimate comfort while listening to this album as they too were 16 at the time it was released. Many of Swift’s long-term fans have been avid listeners for her entire career, feeling now as if they’ve grown up alongside her. Taylor Swift is one of only two albums she has yet to reclaim and solely own. Swifties are speculating both albums will be released in 2024, prior to the conclusion of the international portion of The Eras Tour.
Our designs for “Taylor Swift” focus on her songs Tim McGraw, Picture To Burn, Teardrops On My Guitar, Stay Beautiful, and A Perfectly Good Heart. Following the look of the album, t-shirt designs for “Taylor Swift” should feel very innocent and calm! The album is full of nostalgic sounds and relatable themes that would result in a great custom design. Great design elements for a TS Debut-inspired design include a color scheme featuring shades of teal or turquoise, butterflies, elements of nature, and fonts that feel a bit childish or appear hand-written. This entire album would inspire great t-shirt designs, other songs we would’ve loved to make great t-shirt designs include: “A Place in This World”, “Our Song”, “Should’ve Said No”, and “Invisible.”
Track #1 on Taylor Swift, “Tim McGraw,” pays tribute to Taylor’s favorite country singer, this song prominently references her favorite song by McGraw while working through heartbreak. Our design features a line of the song that can be open to interpretation, “3 Summers Back,” paired with a pick-up truck, also mentioned in the song. The design also features the outline of a butterfly as they’re one of the many things that represent Taylor Swift, seen frequently in the album art for her Debut!
Track #2 of Taylor Swift, “Picture To Burn,” is arguably one of her most iconic songs and creates a similar energy to Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats.” Our design features a polaroid with a silhouette of a couple paired with flames beneath. The color scheme reflects shades of blues as seen on the album art for her debut album but this design would truly look great in an array of colors!
Written about having a crush on someone who “doesn’t know you exist,” a tale as old as time. Track #3 and #15 as a pop version, “Teardrops On My Guitar” is about a situation like that and the feelings behind it. For this design, we created a guitar inspired by her iconic “bejeweled” guitar (allegedly rhinestoned by the artist’s mother), with “he’s the reason” written on the neck.
Track #8, “Stay Beautiful,” is a sweet ode to finding beauty in simplicity. With the meaning behind the song in mind, we created this design. Simple, yet beautiful, in the color scheme of the album art featuring a butterfly.
Track #14, “A Perfectly Good Heart” is often referred to as a hidden gem on Taylor Swift Debut. This song is both sweet and sad and we tried to encompass that through this design. The song title is prominently featured with an open heart around it. We also added a butterfly to keep the debut theme going!

Released on November 11th, 2008, Taylor Swift’s “Fearless” album is a pivotal chapter in her music journey, showcasing her evolution as an artist. This highly acclaimed studio album not only solidified Swift’s presence in the music industry but also marked a significant departure from her self-titled debut album. Re-released as Taylor’s Version on April 9th, 2021, “Fearless” is characterized by a blend of country and pop influences, reflecting Swift’s growth and experimentation with her sound. With a total of 13 tracks, the album explores themes of love, heartbreak, and the complexities of relationships, all conveyed with Swift’s signature storytelling abilities.
The lead single, “Love Story,” became a massive success, earning widespread acclaim for its catchy melody and Shakespearean elements pulled from one of history’s most well-known plays, Romeo and Juliet. The “Fearless” album also led to a groundbreaking moment for Taylor Swift, winning Album of the Year at the 2010 Grammy Awards! For the world of music, this award was a historic achievement made by Taylor Swift as she was the youngest artist at the time to receive such honor. Winning Album of the Year solidified her status as a musical force to be reckoned with.
Our designs for “Fearless” focus on her songs Fearless, Fifteen, Love Story, You Belong With Me, and Breathe. Pulling inspiration from the album art, t-shirt designs for “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” should feel almost electric! The album is full of iconic songs and shows Taylor’s immediate growth as an artist, all of which would make a great custom design. Great design elements for a Fearless-inspired design include a color scheme featuring shades of yellow and gold, a horse, and golden glitter, and could use an array of fonts. Like Taylor Swift, “Fearless” as a whole would inspire great t-shirt designs. Other songs we would’ve loved to make great t-shirt designs include: “White Horse”, “Today Was a Fairytale”, “Forever & Always”, and “The Best Day.”
Track #1, “Fearless”, kicks off the album strong as a fun uplifting love song. Our design features the title in a font that resembles Taylor Swift’s handwriting and signature paired with a gold cowboy boot. The color scheme stays true to the golden look of the album art and the boot pays tribute to Taylor’s country roots and the overall country sound of the album.
Track #2 on Taylor Swift’s “Fearless” is Fifteen. A reflection on the challenges and emotions that come with being fifteen, this is a song every teenage girl should hear. Our design is directly inspired by a line in the song, “Well, in life you’ll do things / Greater than dating the boy on the football team / I didn’t know it at fifteen.” Even if you’re like Taylor and are currently “dating the boy on the football team,” you’re still doing things greater than that, like showing your creativity through custom apparel!
Staying in order with track #3, “Love Story” is basically the song version of the world’s most tragic love story, Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare. As one of Taylor’s most successful singles, of course we had to feature a Love Story-inspired design or, “our version” of the song! This design is simple and timeless, just a book with “Love Story” written on the cover.
Jumping to track #6, “You Belong With Me” is another one of Taylor Swift’s biggest hits. The “You Belong With Me” music video was also the winner of Best Female Video at the MTV Video Music Awards, an acceptance that has been infamous since it aired due to “he who shall not be named”. This design is for the girls looking longingly out their window at night thinking “You belong with me!” and of course, for the people who prefer to wear t-shirts on the bleachers instead of being cheer captain and wearing short skirts.
Track #7, “Breathe” is an emotional ballad co-created by Taylor and Colbie Caillat. A beautifully written song, lyrically capturing the feeling of letting go, our design is simple yet stunning, just like the song! The sparkly stars are featured as a nod to the golden feeling of the album art and “breathe” is written in a lovely cursive, similar to the artist’s handwriting.

First released on October 25th, 2010, Taylor Swift’s third album, “Speak Now” stands as a testament to Taylor Swift’s songwriting skills and artistic autonomy. This album marks another significant moment in Swift’s career as she took on the role of sole songwriter for all 16 original tracks. Released as Taylor’s Version on July 7th, 2023 with 6 additional vault tracks, this album continues to be one of Taylor Swift’s most enchanting albums.
“Speak Now” is a musical journey that delves into Swift’s personal experiences with an almost story-like feel through her lyricism. This album offers a glimpse into Taylor’s life, relationships, and reflections while maintaining a country-pop fusion, solidifying Swift’s ability to seamlessly blend genres and connect with a diverse audience. Full of iconic tracks, the critical and commercial success of the album continued to elevate Taylor Swift’s standing in the music industry. “Speak Now” received numerous Grammy nominations, including Best Country Album, further affirming her success as a respected artist.
Our designs for “Speak Now” focus on her songs Back To December, Dear John, Enchanted, Better Than Revenge, and Long Live. Staying true to the look of the album, t-shirt designs for “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” should feel very whimsical and magical! This album is full of detailed storytelling and beautiful imagery. Great design elements for a Speak Now-inspired design include a color scheme featuring shades of purple, roses, wedding-themed elements, and flowy cursive fonts. Other songs we would’ve loved to make great t-shirt designs include: “Mine”, “Sparks Fly”, “Mean”, and “Speak Now.”
Track #3 on Taylor Swift’s “Speak Now” album is Back to December. An apology for a past relationship, this song admits to relationship wrongdoings and shows regret. One of Swift’s most well-known songs from Speak Now, our design features a rose that was “left there to die” and “December” written in a simple but beautiful cursive.
Track #4, “Dear John”, is considered to be a bit of a controversial song. As Taylor “never writes songs about one specific person,” many believe this song was directly about her ex from age 19, John Mayer. Our design focused on the idea that this song was a letter, written and sent to “John,” wherever and whomever he may be. The return only says “the girl in the dress,” a lyric pulled directly from the chorus. If you were unaware, Taylor Swift has been known to love easter eggs so we made John’s address 13 (her favorite number), Rain Road, Blue Sky, CA 72023. The road and city are both a nod to the song, specifically the lines “You paint me a blue sky / And go back and turn it to rain.” Our choice for the zip code, 72023 came from “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” being released in July of 2023 (7/2023).
Track #9, “Enchanted”, captures the magic of meeting someone new and being enchanted by them. For this design, we wanted a look that was truly “enchanting” and created just that. The shades of purple perfectly encompass the look of “Speak Now” and the stars add an extra touch of magic to make this design feel enchanted.
“Better Than Revenge” is track #10 on Swift’s “Speak Now” album and is truly an anthem for empowerment. Similarly to “Picture to Burn” from her debut album, “Better than Revenge” has the same type of energy as Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats.” Our design is the final line of the song’s chorus “(There is) nothing I do better than revenge” and is a great design for any Swiftie obsessed with the Speak Now Era!
Track #14, “Long Live”, was written for her band and crew, celebrating their journey together and “all the magic (they’ve) made”! In an attempt to recreate the magic made at Swift’s concerts, tours, and through her music, we used a magic wand to separate the words “long” and “live” followed by “The Magic We’ve Made” in cursive. This magical design is a great way for Swifties to show off one of their favorite songs and doubles as a great design for families and beyond!

First released on October 22nd, 2012, Taylor Swift’s fourth studio album, “Red”, represents a bold and transformative phase in Taylor’s musical journey. This album departures further from her country roots and embraces a more diverse sound that still seamlessly blends country, rock, and pop influences. Re-released as Taylor’s Version on November 12th, 2021, the album now features a whopping 30 tracks, including her history-making “All Too Well (10 minute version)”.
The tracks featured on Taylor’s “Red” album unravel a different facet of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery. Collaborating with a range of producers and songwriters, this album has a very dynamic and eclectic musical landscape that encapsulates the central theme of passionate and tumultuous love. “Red” as an album contains vivid imagery and emotional intensity and may often be referred to as her most heart-wrenching album to date. The original and re-released version of the album both received critical acclaim that matched its commercial success with the original album debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, and “Red (Taylor’s Version)” winning numerous awards including both American Music Awards for Favorite Pop and Country Album, the Billboard Music Award for Top Country Album, and the NME Award for Best Reissue.
Our designs for “Red” focus on her songs State of Grace, Treacherous, All Too Well (specifically the 10 minute version), 22, and The Lucky One. T-shirt designs for “Red (Taylor’s Version)” have a lot of opportunity and versatility! The album is full of stellar tracks, imagery, and lyricism that would make great inspiration for any custom design. Great design elements for a Red-inspired design include a color scheme featuring shades of red, a scarf, autumn leaves, car keys, and cursive or hand-written style fonts. While this entire album would inspire great t-shirt designs, other songs we would’ve loved to make great t-shirt designs include: “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”, “I Knew You Were Trouble”, “Starlight”, and “Begin Again.”
Starting off strong with track #1, “State of Grace” was inspired by the feeling of falling in love and really sets the tone for Taylor’s “Red” era. Our design features the iconic chorus lines, “Love is a ruthless game / Unless you play it good and right.” This song perfectly encompasses the beginning of a new relationship while acknowledging how difficult relationships can end up being.
Track #3, “Treacherous” explores the excitement and feeling of danger that comes with a new romance. This track really dives into what it’s like to see potential red flags in a new partner but not let them stop you from pursuing the relationship. Our design features a solid lyric from the song, “Nothing safe is worth the drive”, in addition to a car with its path making a heart shape.
All Too Well (10 Minute Version)
Considered to be one of Taylor Swift’s best-written songs, full of vivid storytelling, “All Too Well” is featured twice on the “Red” album. “All Too Well” can be found on “(Taylor’s Version)” as track #5 but she also added the highly-anticipated 10 minute version as track #30. If you haven’t heard the 10 minute version, let us be the first to tell you it’s at least ten times better than the original song. “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version)” is also the longest song to rank #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 songs chart! Our design features the main chorus line, “I remember it all too well,” and features main imagery from the 10 minute version, the iconic red scarf and the “car keys tossed” to her.
A birthday favorite for any 22-year-old, “22” is track #6 on the “Red” album. 22 was written about Taylor’s 22nd birthday and the friends she spent her special day with. Our design is quite simple and honestly, can be tweaked to fit any birthday and age! The main chorus says “I’m feeling twenty-two” so our design features “feelin’” above the number 22 created to look like a cake.
Track #13, “The Lucky One”, is Taylor Swift’s reflection on the challenges she faces maintaining authenticity under the limelight. While it’s easy to call people ‘lucky’ for their fame, fortune, or anything else, we can all agree that they may not feel lucky at the end of the day. Our design features four-leaf clovers, a signifier of luck, with the song title in the middle. Change it to green and you have the perfect Swift-inspired shirt for St. Patrick’s Day!

Taylor Swift’s fifth studio album, “1989”, was first released on October 27th, 2014. Named after Taylor’s birth year, “1989” is Taylor’s first complete pop album in her music journey. A sonic shift from her country roots, this album showcases a more synth-pop and electro-pop sound that captivated audiences worldwide. Released October 27th, 2023, “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” once again took the world by storm, featuring 22 tracks, five of which are unreleased, and “From the Vault.”
The “1989” album explores themes of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery. While shifting genres can be daunting for many artists, Taylor Swift went all in and her efforts paid off! Upon the initial release of “1989” and similarly to “Red”, the album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and its impact extended to Grammy Awards and even resulted in Taylor Swift being the first female solo artist to win Album of the Year twice. This album is also considered to have some of Taylor’s most catchy tunes and is recognized as the most pivotal moment in Swift’s career due to her seamless transition into the pop genre.
Our designs for “1989” focus on her songs Welcome To New York, Blank Space, Wonderland, Style, and Bad Blood. Following the look of the album, t-shirt designs for “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” should feel very light and airy! The album is full of catchy tracks and great story-telling that would result in a great custom design. Great design elements for a 1989-inspired design include a color scheme featuring shades of light blues, seagulls or birds, beachy elements, and cutesy or hand-written style fonts. This entire album would inspire great t-shirt designs, other songs we would’ve loved to make great t-shirt designs include: “Shake It Off”, “Out Of The Woods”, “Wildest Dreams”, and “Clean.”
Track #1 of Taylor Swift’s “1989” album is a love letter to her newly adopted city, New York City. “Welcome To New York” is an energetic song about Taylor’s love for New York and we wanted to make sure our design fit the energy. Our design features art of NYC’s iconic Brooklyn Bridge with “New York” written in cursive below. While this design is simple, it still manages to encompass the song perfectly.
Track #2 for “1989” is one of the album’s most well-known songs, “Blank Space”. When originally released, “Blank Space” was Swift’s first number 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100. Written amongst the peak of the “serial dater” allegations thrown Taylor’s way, this song embraces those rumors and honestly, pokes a bit of fun at the haters. Our design features a portion of the chorus, “Long list of ex-lovers,” on streaks in shades of blue to fit the look of the “1989” album art. This design also features two flying seagulls in the top corner to represent the bird imagery seen frequently in the album art.
Inspired by fantasy with an Alice in Wonderland feel, “Wonderland” is track #14 on Taylor’s “1989” album. “Wonderland” draws parallels between love and the whimsical world of “Wonderland.” Our design plays heavily into the whimsical feeling of the song. Our teapot design features the color theme of the album, fun stars, and the saying, “In the end, in Wonderland, we both went mad.”
Track #3, “Style” is another one of the most well-known songs from Taylor’s “1989” era. “Style” explores the enduring nature of a captivating love story that will “never go out of style.” Our design features that exact line from the chorus with a slight twist. This versatile design is a great example of how to subtly show you’re a Swiftie in style!
Often thought of as ‘another breakup song’, track #8, “Bad Blood” was actually written about a broken friendship. For many, “friend breakups” tend to be even harder than the ending of a ‘normal’ relationship! Our design for “Bad Blood” is a spin on the ‘if you can read this’ shirts you may see online. This design says “If you can read this…now we got problems, back up to avoid bad blood.”

First released on November 10th, 2017, “Reputation” is Taylor Swift’s sixth studio album and is one of the last albums Swift plans to re-release as “Taylor’s Version.” This album is a big shift from Taylor Swift’s typical sound and energy, representing a bold and transformative phase in her career. “Reputation” is characterized best by its darker and edgier sound combined with its exploration of themes related to fame, media scrutiny, and personal growth. Dropped over three years after “1989”, this album was released after Swift has said to have gone “into hiding” after facing controversy in the media. “Reputation” explores the impact of public perception on an artist’s identity while tastefully throwing shade at all who have wronged her.
Despite its initial polarizing reception, “Reputation” achieved commercial success, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. Swift’s strategic marketing and promotion, including her retreat from the public eye prior to the album’s release, added an extra layer of mystery and anticipation that captivated fans. Furthermore, the “Reputation Stadium Tour” that followed the release quickly became one of the highest-grossing concert tours of all time. “Reputation” has become many fans' favorite album in Taylor Swift’s discography and the lucrative, hopefully upcoming, release of “Reputation (Taylor’s Version)” is highly anticipated!
Our designs for “Reputation” focus on the album itself and the songs Don’t Blame Me, Delicate, This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things, and Getaway Car. This album is quite a shift from Taylor’s other albums so a t-shirt design for the “Reputation Era” should be dark and have a newspaper-like vibe. The album is full of sassy tracks and was created as a way for Taylor to face her haters! Great design elements for a Rep-inspired design include a dark color scheme, snakes, and fonts you may see in a newspaper. This iconic album would inspire great t-shirt designs, other songs we would’ve loved to make great t-shirt designs include: “...Ready for It?”, “Gorgeous”, “I Did Something Bad”, and “Look What You Made Me Do.”
The “Reputation” album itself deserves its own design. “Reputation” is a big turning point in Taylor Swift’s career! This album was released after “#TaylorSwiftIsOverParty” was trending and Taylor was receiving massive amounts of hate and backlash, branded a “liar” and a “snake” for speaking out about a derogatory lyric made towards her in another artist’s song. Her reputation could not get worse and instead of continuing to hide, she embraced the rumors and bad rep, resulting in a multi-million dollar album! This design encompasses the entire album, featuring a snake and “reputation” written in a newspaper-like font seen prominently in the album themes.
Track #4 of the “Reputation” album, “Don’t Blame Me” is known for its powerful vocals, showcasing Taylor’s range. This song compares being in love to being a drug addict, unable to get enough of their lover. Our design features the song title as well as hints of imagery she created within the song, “I once was poison ivy, but now, I’m your daisy.”
Track #5, “Delicate”, is similar to another “Rep” song, “Gorgeous”. “Delicate” shows a hesitant approach to pursuing a new relationship due to a ruined reputation. Our design features the iconic line, “You can make me a drink”, alongside a martini glass. “Delicate” is loaded with stellar lyrics that can be made into amazing t-shirt designs but this line in particular really stood out as something that’s both perfect for Swifties and part-time listeners.
This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things
Arguably one of the most fun ‘diss tracks,’ track #13 addresses Taylor’s past feuds in the way she knows best, through her writing! “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things” is a lighthearted, almost comical track where Swift throws shade toward all of her haters. Our design features the main chorus, “This is why we can’t have nice things” with lines and a star to separate the lines.
Track #9, the lyrics of “Getaway Car” are full of powerful imagery. Taylor uses the image of criminals in a speeding car as the central metaphor for a romance that’s doomed from the beginning. Our design features what we think of as a “getaway car” with the lyrics “Nothing good starts in a getaway car.” A design like this could be a great way to get your car-loving dad or significant other to rep Taylor, even if they don’t know the meaning behind it!
Featured Products (Left to Right): Port and Company Classic Crewneck Sweatshirt, District Women’s Perfect Tri Fleece V-Neck Sweatshirt, Champion 50/50 EcoSmart Pullover Hood Sweatshirt, Hanes Adult Heavyweight 50/50 T-Shirt, Charles River Women’s New England Rain Jacket
Released on August 23rd, 2019, “Lover” is Taylor Swift’s seventh studio album and the first album fully owned by Taylor herself. A quick return to a more whimsical and romantic sound, this album marks the official transition from “Reputation” and embraces a colorful and joyful exploration of love, relationships, and self-discovery.
“Lover” was received incredibly well by fans and critics alike for its introspective lyricism, musical versatility, and the sense of warmth prevalent throughout the entire album. Swift’s exploration of love in all its complexities demonstrated her ability to connect with listeners on a deeply personal level. Commercially, “Lover” continued Taylor Swift’s streak of unwavering success, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. “Lover” and the lyrics Taylor Swift wrote for the tracks dive deep into love from before the relationship is official, to enjoying the littlest things with your lover.
Our designs for “Lover” focus on her songs Cruel Summer, The Man, Cornelia Street, You Need To Calm Down, and Lover. Following the bright and fun energy of the album, t-shirt designs for “Lover” should feel very fun and feature bright colors! The album is full of happy tracks and is a love story in itself, allowing for great custom design inspiration. Great design elements for a Lover-inspired design include a color scheme featuring shades of bright pink (think the colors in a summer sunset), hearts, rainbows, and cutesy or cursive fonts. This entire album inspires great t-shirt designs, other songs we would’ve loved to make great t-shirt designs include: “Paper Rings”, “The Archer”, “London Boy”, and “Daylight.”
Track #2 of Taylor Swift’s “Lover” album doubles as her current #1 song on Spotify as of early 2024. “Cruel Summer” narrates the uncertainty at the beginning of a relationship and has one of the most iconic bridges Taylor has ever written. For this design, we kept it simple with line art to represent a sunset and “Cruel Summer” written below.
Track #4, “The Man” directly addresses societal double standards set on women compared to men. This song plays around with the idea of perception and according to Vogue, Taylor “has often wondered how she would be written and spoken about if she were a man.” Our design for “The Man” features bright pinks, purples, and blues, seen frequently in the album art. The title in an almost collegiate-style font is the main focus with each letter having its own tie - a nod to the iconic and hilarious “The Man” music video.
Track #9, “Cornelia Street” was inspired by Taylor’s former apartment on Cornelia Street in New York City. Focused on the role the Manhattan street played in her memories of an early relationship, this song comes with a lot of feelings. Our design pays tribute to the street while encompassing the bright colors and fun of the album. The street signs we created feature “Cornelia St.” below “Lover Ave.”, tying both the song and album together for one design!
“You Need To Calm Down” is track #14 of Taylor Swift’s “Lover” album and was one of the album's biggest tracks. This song was primarily written to advocate for equality and acceptance for everyone. This song finds Taylor Swift addressing various hate-filled comments while telling their writers to just calm down, even saying they’re “doing too much”! Our design features “Calm Down” in a fun, bubbly font, perfectly encompassing the simple message that sometimes you just need to calm down.
Track #3 and the album’s namesake, “Lover” is a sweet love song. This song is a romantic story of lovers appreciating every part of each other, even the little things. Dedicated to her long-term boyfriend at the time, Joe Alwyn, this song is the epitome of true love. Our design features the title in a cute cursive font, in the middle of Christmas lights as a subtle call out to the line “We could leave the Christmas lights up ‘til January.”

Released on July 24th, 2020, “folklore” is Taylor Swift’s eighth studio album and features another genre shift. Characterized by its indie folk and alternative rock influences, “folklore” offers a more introspective and stripped-down musical experience. With 16 tracks, “folklore” explores a more subdued and contemplative side of Swift’s songwriting. With a focus on fictional narratives and introspective reflections, this album dives deep into storytelling and its songs truly tell a story.
The release of “folklore” was a surprise amidst the 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic and marked a departure from Taylor Swift’s traditional album rollout strategy. Showcasing a more spontaneous and organic approach to sharing her music, Taylor Swift proves to the world yet again that she can do it all! The genre shift from pop to a more indie and alternative sound demonstrated Swift’s versatility as an artist and garnered massive amounts of praise for her ability to evolve beyond genre constraints. Critically acclaimed, “folklore” also received Grammy nominations upon its release and was Taylor’s third win for Album of the Year.
Our designs for “folklore” focus on her songs The One, The Last Great American Dynasty, Cardigan, Invisible String, and August. Following the clean and natural look of the album, t-shirt designs for “folklore” should feel almost haunting yet artsy! This album has more of an indie-folk sound and is truly beautiful, allowing for spectacular custom design inspiration. Great design elements for a folklore-inspired design include a color scheme featuring shades of gray, trees, aesthetic shapes, and clean, easy-to-read fonts. For us, “folklore” inspires great t-shirt designs, other songs we would’ve loved to make great t-shirt designs include: “illicit affairs”, “mad woman”, “exile”, and “betty.”
Track #1 of Taylor Swift’s “Folklore” album, “the one” centers around the nostalgic remembrance of myths and lost loves. This song sets the tone for a brand new sound Taylor hasn’t explored much before. The goal of this design was to create something simple that encompasses the indie-folk vibe of “Folklore”, and our design is just that.
The Last Great American Dynasty
Track #3, “the last great american dynasty,” is an almost humorous song about the story behind a Rhode Island house purchased by Swift in 2013. Once owned by Rebekah Harkness, the mansion known as “Holiday House'' is the main scene for the song. Through this song, Swift draws subtle comparisons between her and Rebekah as Rebekah too was often a target of harsh criticism. Our design features the words “if lost please return to Holiday House” below the dog Rebekah allegedly stole from her neighbor and dyed key lime green.
Track #2, “Cardigan”, is the lead single from Taylor Swift’s “folklore” album. This song is also believed to be the first part of a “Teenage Love Triangle” in folklore, with the storyline continuing in “august” and “betty”. Our design features a cozy cardigan with the memorable line “When you are young they assume you know nothing”.
Based on the “Invisible String Theory,” an East Asian folk myth, “Invisible String” is track #11 on Taylor Swift’s “folklore” album. Expressing gratitude for past romantic failures while attributing them to the success of her new relationship, “Invisible String” is a sweet song ultimately about destiny. Our design features two hands, tied together by a not-so-invisible string below the beautiful lyrics of the chorus.
Track #8, “august”, was co-produced by Taylor Swift and friend, Jack Antonoff, who called the song one of his “favorite things (they’ve) done together!” This song describes an ill-fated summer romance, doomed from the beginning. Our design was inspired by one specific line in the chorus, “August slipped away like a bottle of wine” and features a wine bottle with “august” written in cursive on the label.

A sister album to “folklore”, Taylor Swift’s ninth studio album, “evermore” continues the indie folk and alternative sound while expanding further on themes of storytelling, introspection, and atmospheric production. With 15 tracks, “evermore” carries a cohesive yet distinct identity, building on the sonic landscape established in “folklore.”
Similar to “folklore,” the surprise release of “evermore” and its departure from traditional promotional strategies demonstrated Taylor Swift’s willingness to experiment and connect with audiences on a more spontaneous level. It also shows Swift’s creativity and out-of-the-box thinking when it comes to her music and artistry. The album’s introspective nature and ability to transport listeners to a fictional world underscore Swift’s commitment to creating immersive musical experiences.
Our designs for “evermore” focus on her songs champagne problems, no body, no crime, cowboy like me, happiness, and evermore. Similar to “folklore”, Taylor Swift’s “evermore” has a very natural and clean look but with more of an autumn vibe. T-shirt designs for “evermore” should feel very clean and calm. Design elements for an evermore-inspired design include a fall or natural color scheme, trees, leaves, autumn elements, and clean, easy-to-read fonts. Other songs we would make great inspiration for t-shirt designs include: “tolerate it”, “gold rush”, “closure”, and “ivy”.
Track #2 of Taylor’s “evermore” era, “Champagne Problems” tells the story of a woman who shocks her would-be fiance and their loved ones by turning down a proposal right before Christmas. Our design features the song title with two champagne flutes in the middle alongside fun bubbles and sparkles. Champagne Problems is full of beautiful lyrics that would make spectacular t-shirts, one fan-favorite line in particular comes to mind but unfortunately, it may not be appropriate for this blog. Swifties know what we’re talking about ;)
Track #6, “no body, no crime” is an imaginative take on Swift’s part on a true crime show. This song encompasses a similar energy to “Goodbye Earl” by The Chicks but in a slower and darker way. This design features the title “no body, no crime” above a line of trees. Did she hide his body in the woods? Did he hide Este in the woods? Are the trees just to fit the vibe of the album? We may never know…
The 11th track, “Cowboy Like Me”, brings listeners back to Taylor’s Debut era. This country song tells the love story of two ‘cowboys’ who fall in love through a cat-and-mouse fling. Our design features the song title in a Western font with a cowboy hat in the middle to bring it all together.
Track #7 of Taylor Swift’s “evermore” album, “happiness” is quite deceptive. While you may think this is a happy song, this track is about moving on from a decaying relationship while acknowledging the good parts and bits of joy that existed. Our design features a hand-drawn smiley face with “there is happiness” around it. While the song is very sad, there is always happiness.
Track #15 and the album’s namesake, “evermore” is a meditative piano ballad. This song explores the journey from a seemingly unending period of deep depression and hurt to a place of hope and happiness. This song deals strongly with themes of mental health and we wanted to create a design that encompasses those themes while focusing primarily on hope. Our design features the last line of the chorus, “This pain won’t be for / Evermore”, with a color scheme and fonts that ‘feel’ like the album.

Released October 21st, 2022, Taylor Swift’s “Midnights” is her tenth album which, in-part, resulted in her iconic Eras Tour. Considered to be a concept album about nocturnal ruminations inspired by Swift’s sleepless nights, “Midnights” explores broad emotions including regret, self-critique, fantasies, heartbreak, and infatuation. Using confessional yet cryptic lyrics that allude to her personal life and public image, this album sounds like Taylor Swift but feels to fans like a bit of a turning point for Taylor. This beautiful album features a lot of reflection on past relationships, struggles, and beyond while maintaining an almost hopeful theme with acceptance and growth.
“Midnights” is Taylor Swift’s 11th consecutive chart-topper, debuting again at number one on the Billboard 200 list, and is her fifth album to sell over one million first-week copies. Incredibly well received by critics and fans, “Midnights” was even the best-selling album of 2022! Additionally, the songs featured on “Midnights” made Taylor the first artist to monopolize the entirety of Billboard Hot 100’s top 10 list and topped the charts in many other countries across Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Americas, receiving multi-platinum certifications in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Our designs for “Midnights” focus on her songs Anti-Hero, Karma, Bejeweled, Hits Different, and Lavender Haze. Back to the pop genre, the look and sound of the “Midnights” album match perfectly with the title. T-shirt designs for “Midnights” should feel very calm yet exciting! The album is full of inspirational lyrics and amazing sounds, allowing for great custom design inspiration. Great design elements for a Midnights-inspired design include a color scheme inspired by a midnight drive or the aurora borealis, stars, jewels and gems, and aesthetic fonts. This entire album inspires great t-shirt designs, other songs we would’ve loved to make great t-shirt designs include: “Mastermind”, “Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve”, “Midnight Rain”, and “Snow on the Beach.”
Track #3 and one of Taylor Swift’s personal favorites from the songs she’s written, “Anti-Hero” is the lead single from Midnights. Largely serving as a parallel to “The Archer” from her “Lover” era, “Anti-Hero” shows a darker self-perception, going into depth on how Taylor feels about her personal failures. For this complex song, we wanted to create something simple that encompasses all of the self-perception issues. Our design features “the problem” in a simple yet classy font.
Track #11 and one of the album’s most well-known songs, “Karma” is a confrontation to those who have done Taylor Swift wrong. The song warns wrongdoers about the consequences of their actions and shows Taylor’s relief that karma will do her justice in the end. Our design features “Karma” written in a beautiful cursive font with a cat. The cat was inspired by the line “Karma is a cat / Purring in my lap ‘cause it loves me” and looks slightly similar to one of her beloved cats, Olivia Benson - named after the character from Law & Order: Special Victims Unit!
“Bejeweled” is track #9 of the “Midnights” album and describes frustration with a lover not valuing their partner as much as they deserve. “Bejeweled” doubles as a bit of a power song about knowing your own worth and not settling for less. Our design features the iconic “NICE!” that can be heard in Taylor’s voice in the background of the chorus, surrounded by jewels and gems.
Track #14 of “Midnights”, Taylor Swift’s bonus track, “Hits Different”, explores a heartbreak experience harder than Taylor has ever dealt with before. If you’ve experienced any heartbreak, we’re sure you could agree that some heartbreaks just hit different. Our design features the song title “Hits Different” in a font that matches the vibe of the “Midnights” era alongside bits of sparkle.
Track #1 of “Midnights” and one of the album's top songs, “Lavender Haze” captures the feelings of the ‘honeymoon phase’ in relationships. Inspired by the classic 50’s phrase with the same name, “Lavender Haze” has become a fan-favorite and now has multiple, amazing remixes available for listening. Our design features the title on a lavender haze, with the rest of the line, “I just wanna stay in a (lavender haze)” around the design, allowing for the main focus to be the title and haze.

Released April 19th, 2024, amidst her iconic Eras Tour, “The Tortured Poets Department” (TTPD) is her eleventh and most recent album released to date. This album is arguably the most anticipated album of all time, definitely so in regards to Swift's career. Fans watched as she dropped “hints” suggesting something big was coming. The album was released at midnight EST and the theories of a surprise were right, Taylor Swift surprised fans at 2 AM by making “The Tortured Poets Department” a double album by adding 15 more tracks calling the entire double album, “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology.” While this album has not won any awards yet due to its recent release, “TTPD” waited no time to break records! In less than one week after its release, Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department” broke personal records for Swift as well as international records for Spotify, Amazon Music, Album Sales, and more. On its first day of release, TTPD became the most-streamed album in Amazon Music History. Continuing through the weekend, only a few days after its release, Spotify announced that TTPD has become the first album in the streaming platform’s history to have more than 300 million streams in a single day while the lead single, “Fortnight,” has become the most-streamed song in a single day in Spotify history. In regards to traditional album sales, Billboard reports that in its first day, “The Tortured Poets Department” sold over 1.4 million copies ranging from CD, vinyl, cassette, and digital download versions. Living in the digital age where streaming is at its peak, it’s both rare and extraordinary to see an album sell in this way. The initial sales even broke Taylor’s personal biggest sales week for 1989 (Taylors Version)!
“The Tortured Poets Department” is likely to be Taylor Swift’s 12th consecutive chart-topper, and all signs are pointing to TTPD making a historic debut on Billboard 200. If that’s the case, Swift will again beat her own record for the most “Number 1” albums for a female artist. Additionally, a big debut on Billboard 200 would put Taylor Swift in a very competitive spot, tying with Jay-Z’s record for the most number 1’s by a solo artist and putting her just 7 number 1 albums away from tying with The Beatles’ record of 19. Unlike Swift’s other albums, The Tortured Poets Department has had a bit of a mixed response. In a New York Times article, co-writers Matt Stevens and Shivani Gonzalez suggest the album was “too long” and seems to leave fans feeling “fatigued.” Similarly, fans who prefer the happy, upbeat, pop “bangers” Taylor Swift typically releases seem a bit disappointed with this album as it’s more serious and unsettling. A frequent note seen amongst poor reviews suggests the album is “messy” and “should have had more editing.” To many, TTPD’s harsh critiques “just don’t get it.” This album is incredibly honest and raw, Swift dives deep into her emotions and the instances that led to where she is now. It’s a reflection on her life, the choices she’s made, the partners who have made empty promises, and features a dark commentary on the industry and what happens within it. The tortured poets who understand the album, truly “get it.” The Rolling Stone’s review of “The Tortured Poets Department”, written by Rob Sheffield, perfectly summarizes the album with just it’s title, Come for the Torture, Stay for the Poetry: This Might Be Taylor Swift’s Most Personal Album Yet.
Our designs for “The Tortured Poets Department” focus on her songs Fortnight, Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?, Florida!!!, I Can Do It With a Broken Heart, and Clara Bow. Compared to her other albums, TTPD has a very unique look and sound, both of which perfectly match the album title, “The Tortured Poets Department.” T-shirt designs for “The Tortured Poets Department” can go a number of ways, focusing on the academia aesthetic or leaning more towards the chaotic side of the album. This album is full of heart-wrenching lyrics and simplistic yet beautiful sounds, allowing for intriguing custom design inspiration. Great design elements for a TTPD-inspired design include a neutral color scheme, flowers, bows, cages, and clean, easy-to-read fonts. Every song on this entire album inspires great t-shirt designs, making it hard to pick just a few of the 31-song album. A few other songs we would’ve loved to make great t-shirt designs include: “The Tortured Poets Department”, “My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys”, “The Black Dog”, and “thanK you aIMee.”
Track #1 and the lead single, Fortnight, featuring Post Malone, is currently the only TTPD song that has its own music video, and let us be the first to say, it’s iconic. Serving as the album’s opener, “Fortnight” is an English term meaning “fourteen nights” or two weeks. The real meaning behind Fortnight is up for speculation but one thing’s for sure, it sets the tone for the entire album perfectly. For this leading song, we wanted to create something simple that encompasses the overall contrasting energy of the song. Our design features the lyrics “your wife waters flowers” around a watering can with flowers blooming with the next line, “i wanna kill her” underneath in a lighter color.
Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?
Track #10 and one of fan’s current favorite songs off the album, “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” is a confrontation to many different people and groups within Taylor Swift’s life. She addresses and mocks all of the rumors that continue to surround her professional and personal life while challenging those who try to “control” her. This song is full of great lines that would make spectacular custom apparel designs but our design features “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me” written in a beautiful cursive font with “Well you should be,” another line from the song featured in a smaller font beneath.
“Florida!!!” is track #8 of “The Tortured Poets Department” album and describes the feeling of wanting to run away and escape the issues going on in (her) life. Speaking to iHeartRadio, Swift explains that Florida(!!!) is a stereotypical location to which criminals flee to start a new life. She likens this idea to the feeling she has whenever she’s going through a hard breakup. Our design features the title “Florida” with 2 aesthetic stars and another line from the song, “it’s one hell of a drug,” below.
I Can Do It With a Broken Heart
Track #13, Taylor’s favorite number, of TTPD, “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart”, recounts Taylor’s experience touring amidst a hard breakup with long-term boyfriend Joe Alwyn. An upbeat song with incredibly sad lyrics, “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” gives listeners a look into what went on inside her mind during The Eras Tour while trying to emotionally and mentally recover from the relationship, media, etc. A unique touch to this song that truly shows the thought Swift puts behind her music is the “1, 2, 3” in the background which comes from some of the metronome beats, allowing listeners to feel like they’re “in her ears” during a live performance. The song as a whole covers how difficult it is to do anything when you’re upset, let alone put on a happy, sparkling show for thousands of people when you feel you’re at your lowest. For our design, we focused on the last, almost comical line of the song, “Try and come for my job.” Elevating the line with stars and framing, anyone who has had to “fake it til’ (they) make it” can relate to challenging those who may think they know best.
Track #16 of “The Tortured Poets Department” and the album ender until “The Anthology” was released, “Clara Bow” pays homage to the silent film star and “Original It Girl,” Clara Bow. “Clara Bow” is a thought-provoking song about the industry and comparisons we make to upcoming artists in order to make them feel like they’re “the next big thing” while also showing that it’s a cycle and one day, a new up-and-coming artist will be compared to Taylor Swift herself. Our design features the title, Clara Bow, a bow, and a rose as a nod to the lines “All your life, did you know / You’d be picked like a rose?”
Design Elements (Taylor’s Version)
While each album in itself has numerous design elements that can make an Eras-inspired design perfect, there are plenty of inside jokes and other elements that could be a great addition to a Taylor Swift-inspired custom design! For starters, a tradition amongst Swifties and concert attendees is the trading of friendship bracelets at her concerts! Inspired by the lyrics from “You’re on Your Own, Kid” from her most recent release, “Midnights”, friendship bracelets have become a Taylor Swift staple and double as a great way for fans to connect and feel bonded. Other elements for a great Taylor-inspired design include animals and objects. While Taylor Swift is a singer, musician, and performer, she is a songwriter first and foremost. Through the lyrics she writes, she uses numerous metaphors and great imagery to paint a beautiful picture for listeners. Some animals and objects fit for any Swiftie’s design include cats, butterflies, instruments, stars, and more. Sticking to her country roots, western-style elements are a great addition to any Swift-inspired design! From cowboy boots and hats to horseshoes and western fonts, the possibilities are endless. If you’ve seen a Taylor Swift concert or a clip from one, you likely saw many fans making a heart with their hands. This has been something done at Swift’s concerts since the beginning and would make for a great ode to Taylor and her music. Lastly, sayings and inside jokes always make for a great custom design.
As we conclude our exploration of custom t-shirt designs inspired by Taylor Swift’s iconic eras of music and Eras Tour, we find ourselves immersed in a visual and musical tapestry that weaves through the various chapters of her illustrious career. Each design represents not only a song but a small part of Taylor’s evolution as an artist and the emotions she has shared with her fans. As many Swifties “grew up” alongside Taylor, the Eras Tour pays tribute to Taylor’s entire career and has created immense amounts of nostalgia and joy. From the rustic charm of “Tim McGraw” on her debut album to the dreamy landscapes of “Lavender Haze” in the “Midnights” collection, we’ve ventured through a kaleidoscope of themes and aesthetics. Taylor Swift truly possesses immense talent and we hope our Eras-inspired designs have done her musical masterpieces justice.
