JUNETEENTH: CELEBRATING BLACK-OWNED SMALL BUSINESSES
June 19th, 2024 • 4 minute read

As Juneteenth approaches, we wanted to showcase some truly creative Black men and women in the apparel and fashion industry. Juneteenth represents a day in history that should always be remembered. June 19th, 1865, marked the day that African American’s first learned of the Emancipation Proclamation. This day forever changed the lives of millions for the better and now it’s even a national holiday! Let’s celebrate as so.

To kick off our Black-owned business highlights we have 10.05Art Studio. 10.05Art Studio was founded by artist Monésia (Moe) Moore in 2018. Moe graduated in 2017 from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University with a degree in Sports Science. Despite her degree, she was driven by a love for art and wanted to create. Moe’s business, 10.05Art has been able to provide numerous services for a wide range of businesses and brands. 10.05Art Studio is described as “a gifted creative aiding in bringing visions to life through artistic expression” and offers both apparel and posters which are truly works of art.

10.05Art Studio was featured as our March Picture of the Month contest winner. We were blown away by the brand itself as well as the picture which can be found on our Instagram here.

Our next business we wish to highlight is Dripped + Draped. Based in Omaha, NE, Dripped + Draped is a coffee shop and clothing boutique founded by Vanelle Littrell and Vandra Caldwell. The business was created out of the desire to create an inclusive, safe place, for all community members to experience great dining, unique shopping, and enjoy an experience unlike any other in Omaha. The business itself is a truly welcoming atmosphere accompanied by skillfully placed messaging and vibrant colors. While the menu is filled with a variety of delicious treats, the shop offers tops, bottoms, accessories, and much more!

Dripped + Draped was highlighted on our Instagram for their outstanding example of an impactful women-led organization within a community we serve! Their post on our page can be found here.

Our third Black-owned business we are highlighting is Le’ Lonnie Couture. Le’ Lonnie Couture is a custom clothing company created by La’ Joya Orr. La’ Joya Orr is a woman who values education, faith, fashion, music and travel. She also values her customers by pouring her heart and soul into every piece she makes. Her clothing focuses on professional loks, dresses, skirts, and special occasions and can be customized to fit anyone’s needs. Each piece La’ Joya makes for Le’ Lonnie Couture is truly a work of art. She utilizes fun patterns and bright colors that will catch anyone’s eye!

La’ Joya Orr was also featured on our Instagram showing off a beautiful patterned skirt she custom made herself, as well as a branded t-shirt with her business, Le’ Lonnie Couture, on it. Our highlighted post for Le’ Lonnie Couture can be found here.

Our final business we would like to highlight is Amandla Apparel. Amandla Apparel is a Michigan-based apparel company that was founded by U of M student, Chase Garrett. Chase started Amandla Apparel as a class project and was driven to spread positivity. Today, Amandla Apparel is committed to driving out the spread of hatred, self-doubt and negativity by instilling self-empowerment, raising awareness on societal issues, and radiating positivity. Chase wanted to directly impact the lives of others and set out to promote self-worth, love, and peace into everyone he could through his business. Through headwear, tops, bottoms, and outerwear, Amandla Apparel is dedicated to positivity, inclusion, and awareness.

Amandla Apparel was featured on our instagram as one of our UGP Spotlights which can be found here.
